Fun Facts:
- The ICC works under 6 main languages. These languages include: English, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish.
- South America is the only continent where every country within it, is a State Party (member of ICC).
- The official seat of the International Criminal Court is located in The Hague, Netherlands.
- The ICC is a Criminal Court which can only prosecute individuals.
- The ICC is not actually a part of the United Nations, it is an independent institution. The UN has no power over the ICC.
- The ICC only has jurisdiction over criminal crimes which have taken place as of July 1st, 2002 and on wards. This is due to the Rome Statute coming into force. So, if we ever find out that someone committed a horrific crime before July 1st 2002, the person cannot be tried in the ICC. The Rome Statute was the foundation of the ICC.
- Crimes of Aggression are the only major crimes where the ICC has no power over. This is due to the 2010 ICC conference, which implemented this amendment (until 2017).
